Description

Spanakopita is a delicious Greek dish featuring a flaky, golden crust filled with a savory mixture of spinach, feta cheese, and fresh herbs. This easy-to-make recipe is perfect as an appetizer, snack, or main dish for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • Phyllo dough
  • Fresh spinach
  • Feta cheese
  • Onion
  • Olive oil
  • Fresh herbs (dill, parsley)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a skillet, sauté onions and spinach in olive oil until the spinach is wilted and the onions are soft.
  • Remove from heat and stir in crumbled feta cheese, fresh dill, parsley, and seasonings to taste.
  • Layer several sheets of phyllo dough in a baking pan, brushing each layer with olive oil for a crispy texture.
  • Spread the spinach and feta mixture evenly over the phyllo dough.
  • Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, then continue layering phyllo dough on top, brushing with olive oil until all dough is used.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden and crispy.

Notes

  • For a meat version, add ground lamb or beef to the filling.
  • Swap feta for ricotta or goat cheese for a different flavor profile.
  • If using frozen spinach, make sure to thaw and drain it thoroughly to avoid excess moisture.
