Description

This no-oven stovetop bread is a simple, foolproof recipe for soft, fluffy homemade bread made in a skillet or non-stick pot. Perfect for those without an oven, this easy yeast bread has a golden crust and can be customized with herbs, seeds, or spices. No baking required—just a stovetop!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (around 40°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • Optional: sesame seeds, herbs, or spices for topping

Instructions

  • Activate the yeast: Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  • Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil, stirring to form a sticky dough.
  • Knead: Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add flour as needed if sticky.
  • First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours until doubled.
  • Shape: Punch down the dough and shape it into a round or flat loaf to fit your skillet or pot.
  • Preheat skillet: Heat a heavy-bottomed skillet or non-stick pot over low heat. Lightly grease with oil or butter.
  • Cook: Place dough in the skillet, cover, and cook on low for 10–15 minutes. Flip and cook for another 10–12 minutes until golden brown.
  • Check doneness: Tap the bread; it should sound hollow. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.
  • Cool & serve: Let the bread cool before slicing. Enjoy with butter, jam, or as a side to your favorite meals!

Notes

  • For extra flavor: Add minced garlic, herbs, or shredded cheese to the dough.
  • For a whole wheat option: Substitute half the flour with whole wheat flour.
  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Freezing: Wrap in plastic wrap and store in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months.
