Description

This Salisbury Steak recipe is a comforting, classic dish featuring juicy beef patties smothered in a rich, onion-infused gravy. Made with Campbell’s French onion soup, this easy and budget-friendly meal is packed with savory flavors. Serve it with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles for a satisfying dinner the whole family will love!

Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steaks:

  • 1 ½ lbs ground beef
  • ½ cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper

For the Onion Gravy:

  • 1 (10 ½ oz) can Campbell’s French onion soup

Instructions

  1. Make the Beef Patties:

    • In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and black pepper until just combined.
    • Shape into 4-5 oval patties.
  2. Brown the Patties:

    • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Sear the patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Gravy:

    • Pour the French onion soup into the same skillet, scraping up any browned bits.
    • Return the patties to the skillet, spooning some of the soup over them.
    • Cover and let simmer on low for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Serve:

    • Spoon the rich onion gravy over the patties.
    • Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles.

Notes

  • Cheesy Twist: Add a slice of Swiss or provolone cheese on top of each patty before serving.
  • Mushroom Gravy: Sauté sliced mushrooms in the skillet before adding the soup for extra depth.
  • Garlic Infusion: Stir in a teaspoon of minced garlic for added flavor.
  • Spicy Version: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce for some heat.
