Ingredients

For the Cookies:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • Zest of 2 oranges (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 23 tablespoons fresh orange juice

Optional Toppings:

  • Sprinkles or shredded coconut for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg, vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Drop tablespoon-sized dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are slightly golden but centers remain soft.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  9. Prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar with orange juice until smooth.
  10. Drizzle glaze over cooled cookies and garnish with sprinkles or shredded coconut if desired.
  11. Let the glaze set before serving.
