Description

These Easy Cheddar Biscuits are buttery, flaky, and packed with sharp cheddar cheese. Perfect as a side for soups, stews, or enjoyed as a standalone snack, these savory biscuits are quick to make, with minimal prep time and simple ingredients. They’re sure to become a favorite!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
  • ¾ cup buttermilk, cold

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cut in Butter:
    • Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add Cheese:
    • Stir in the freshly grated cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  • Add Buttermilk:
    • Pour in the cold buttermilk and mix gently until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Shape the Biscuits:
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Fold the dough over itself a few times, then pat it out again to ½ inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake:
    • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
  • Serve:
    • Allow the biscuits to cool slightly before serving. Optionally, brush with melted butter for a glossy finish.

Notes

  • Variations: Add fresh herbs like chives or thyme for herb cheddar biscuits, stir in crumbled bacon for a savory twist, or add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Freezing: Freeze unbaked dough on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer-safe container. Bake from frozen, adding a few extra minutes.
  • Reheating: Warm biscuits in the oven at 350°F for about 5-7 minutes or microwave for a few seconds.
